WHAT IS THIS GAME?
This is a turn based 1V1 battle game where each player uses creatures and spells to defeat their opponent
START OF THE GAME
CREATURE RULES
PARTS OF A TURN
At the beginning of each turn the player draws a card. They then ENERGIZE any creatures that are DRAINED. The player may now choose to put a creature card from their hand into play. The final part of a turn is declaring an attack. You can choose any or none of your creatures to attack your opponent. On the very first turn of the game the starting player cannot declare an attack
Each player starts with 40 life points that they keep track of on paper or their phone. Shuffle the deck and deal out seven cards to each player. If a player has no creature cards, they may choose to shuffle their hand into the deck and they are dealt a new hand of seven cards. Flip a coin or play rock paper scissors to see who goes first
During your turn you can put one creature from your hand into play (Phantom Rider is an exception to this rule)
Creature Limit- If you have 4 creatures in play under your control you cannot put more creatures from your hand into play. Spells and creature abilities can cause you to exceed 4 total creatures
Creature Abilities- These are effects that can be activated by creatures. They have some sort of cost associated with activation. Example- Drain or Lose 5 life etc. Creature abilities can be activated at any time as long as the creature isn't drained. You can't drain a creature for an ability while simultaneously draining it as part of an attack
DRAINED AND ENERGIZED
Creatures in this game have two general states that they can be in. While ENERGIZED a creature is oriented straight up with the text readable by the player who played the card. In this state a creature has the ability to attack, defend or use a creature ability if it has one. After a creature attacks or it uses certain creature abilities it will become DRAINED. In this state a creature is unable to attack, defend or use abilities. To signify that a creature is drained turn it upside down
SPELLS
Spells can be played at any time. Literally, anytime you want. There are two different kinds of spells- One time and Linger. One time spells are used instantly and their effects are enacted when the spell is played. Linger spells are played on creatures and stay in the game until the creature they are played on dies. After every spell that gets played the player who didn't play the spell gets a chance to respond to that spell before the effect happens, with a spell of their own, or potentially, a creature ability. The word "target" is used often with spells and creature abilities. Both creatures that are in play and players can be "targets". Some spells will target creatures or players, not both. That fact will be specified on the text of the spell or creature ability. If it isn't specified, you can choose any creature or player as the "target"
ATTACKING AND DEFENDING
A player declares an attack as the last part of their turn. Drain all creatures that you want to attack your opponent. You must declare all creatures that will be attacking at the same time. The defending player chooses which of their creatures will defend against each attacking creature. A drained creature is unable to defend against attacking creatures. A defending creature can only block one attacking creature per turn and an attacking creature can only be blocked by one creature. A player may also choose to take the damage from an attacking creature directly to their life points instead of defending. If they choose to take damage directly, the player loses life points equal to the power of the attacking creature that isn't defended
CREATURE DAMAGE
When two creatures are battling compare their power numbers, found in the top right of each card. The one with the higher power lives through the battle and the creature with the lower number dies and is put in the discard pile next to the deck. If the power numbers are even neither creature dies. If a spell or creature ability would do damage to a creature during battle it effectively decreases the damaged creature's power number by the amount of damage done. Example-an attacking creature has 10 power, if it takes 8 damage, its power is now 2 until the end of the turn. If the same creature were to damage a player that player would lose 2 life points. At the end of each player's turn, all creature's power numbers return to their original values
Counter Spells- There are multiple spells that have the ability to stop the effects of other spells played by players. When a spell or creature ability is countered, the effects of that spell or ability don't happen. Any cost associated with casting spell or creature ability do still occur. Example-Blood Ritual Altar-sacrifice a creature- deal damage equal to its power to any one target. If this spell was countered, the sacrifice would still happen. The end effect of the spell (doing damage to any one target) would not happen
HOW TO WIN
Reduce your opponent's life points to zero through the use of creatures and spells. It is possible to tie if both players have their life points reduced to zero in the same turn
